Finding the Motivation For Change
What motivates you the most? When you ranked your top 5 values what were your most important values? Making change is hard, and so it’s important that we understand why we are making changes. That “why” can be very helpful in keeping us motivated when our energy runs low. However, the “why” needs to be something pretty powerful. An example of a powerful motivator would be losing a relationship if you are unable to sustain change. Another powerful motivator is our physical and mental health, for example, maybe it has come to our attention that if we don’t make big changes now, we will possibly experience negative physical or emotional consequences.
I find that journaling, or doing some kind of creative activity can help us identify what out motivator is. If you already have an activity that you want to do, go for it! If you need some help, I’ve attached another worksheet to help you start the process. This might take some time, and so don’t feel as though you have to rush this process. Take a few days, a week, a few weeks to really think about and write about what your motivation will be. Enjoy the process!
