3 Ways to Find Your Intuition
Many of us have experienced a great deal of stress and emotional turmoil throughout the past year. Working through the stress and feelings of the past year has made me realize that I have been disconnected from my intuition for a while now. I realized that before the pandemic my life was packed full of busyness and stress, and that I was constantly in a reactionary state. Looking back, I see now that I had NO time in my life to take care of and connect with myself. I was disconnected from my intuition and therefore I was disconnected from my truth, authenticity, and values. When we are living in a reactionary state it is impossible to make intentional choices that reflect our values and true self.
Throughout the last 6 months I have concentrated on creating more space in my life for self care and self connection. I have shifted my work schedule so that I have more time for myself and my family. I have made meditation and gratitude a regular part of my day. I am intentional about how I spend my time and the choices I make so that they reflect my values. However, the most important thing I have done is I have re-connected with my intuition and I am letting my intuition guide me once again.
I’ve always been able to hear my intuition, but there have been times in my life where I was very connected to my intuition, and other times when I knew it was there, but was in such a reactionary state that I wasn’t letting my intuition guide me. I’ve realized that for me, creating and doing art is the best way for me to connect with my intuition. When I’m painting I notice that I am completely absorbed in the process, and the feeling I have is so light and free. I’m making art a regular part of my week once again, and it feels incredible.
How do you connect with your intuition? There are many things you can do to connect with your intuition. In general though, I usually suggest something that gets you away from your normal “thinking mind”. If I am using my thinking mind to try and access my intuition, thoughts and stories get in the way. If you’re struggling to connect with your intuition, here are some easy things you can try:
Meditation
Try a breathing meditation for 5-10 minutes. Focus on your breath, or use square breathing to keep you focused. Once you notice your mind settle, drop down into your physical body and notice feelings and physical sensations…that’s your intuition.
Shifting focus from mind to body
This is similar to the first one, but without the meditation part. Your intuition lives in your body, and so shifting your focus from your mind to your body will allow you to better connect with your intuition. I’ll do this many times a day. I’ll notice that I’m caught up in a thought cycle, and then I will intentionally shift my focus from my mind to my body. My intuition lives in my gut, and so I’ll bring my focus to my gut and notice feelings and physical sensations, which can give me valuable information about anything I am struggling with.
Do something creative
I love using anything creative as a means of channeling my intuition and true self. Just 5-10 minutes of painting automatically brings my intuition on line. Creativity uses a completely different part of the brain then the thinking part, so it’s a fast and easy way to connect with your intuition.
These are just some of the ways that you can practice connecting with your intuition. Try one of these out and see how it feels. Stay healthy and well and reach out anytime!
